Pence returns as Giants defeat Nationals

Published Saturday July 30

SAN FRANCISCO >> The ovation began to build for Hunter Pence while his cleats skidded along the infield dirt. By the time he reached his position on the worn spot in the right field grass, the applause enveloped him.

“It’s no secret,” remarked Pence’s proper friend, Buster Posey, following the Giants’ 5-3 victory over the Wn. Nationals on Saturday. “He’s our emotional, spiritual, whatever-you-want-to-go-with leader.”

Pence, activated from the disabled list prior to the game, thrilled the sellout crowd when he took his first at-bat in 2 months and doubled off the top of the left field wall.

The Giants stranded him there.

He was stranded in scoring position, too.
